Chestnut Hills Park

The Equipment
Chestnut Hills Park is a local favorite and now that it has been updated, this shaded park has some really nice features.  There are two distinct sections of this playground.   If you’re entering from N. Harrison Street, the structure on the left hand side is for older kids.  There are ladders, a pole you can slide down, five slides of varying types, a zip line plus big kid swings.  This section of the park is what remains of the “old Chestnut Hills” playground. With that said, the equipment is still in decent shape.  There is a mulch bedding underneath the structures in this area.
The right hand side of the park houses all the new equipment.  This section of the park is bright and colorful — perfect for the younger set.  This section includes 4 bucket swings, tunnels to climb up, under and over, a small school bus to climb in and out of, a school house, slides, spinners, a very large sandbox and a cool water feature.   The water feature starts with a pump of sorts where once kids pump the water, they can watch it go down the tunnel.  With this in mind, we say bring extra clothes just in case.  The ground underneath this area is primarily cushiony material and mulch here and there.
There are multiple pathways that connect both sides of the playground and you’ll find plenty of toys and ride-ons available for your child to use.
The Scene
As I mentioned earlier, this playground is a popular one in Arlington and can get crowded.   There is parking on Harrison Street, just be careful when getting your kids out of the car, as it is a busier street.  There is a fence that runs along the front of the playground, but it doesn’t connect in the back.
There are water fountains and lots of bench seating.  The playground is wheelchair accessible, but there isn’t specific adaptive equipment that we noticed.  If you get hungry, you can head to the Harrison Street shopping center which is about a 10+ minute walk from the playground.  You’ll find the infamous Duck Donuts, a Starbucks, Harris Teeter, Pie Tanza, Elevation Burger and a few other places to satsify all palettes.
