Cosca Regional Park

The Equipment
There are actually three levels of playgrounds with the main one located as you enter the park.  All areas are divided by age from 2 to 5 and age 5 to 12, but the structures are basically set next to one another.
Two brightly colored dinosaurs greet you in the center of the playground.  One section has elevated ramps, musical chimes, checker board, and eight slides ranging from single, side-by-side, tunnel, and several bumpy versions.  Next to this unit are two abstract climbing structures and a tire swing.  The Playshaper structure for ages 2-5 features a metal ladder, building blocks for climbing, a gear box, four crawling tunnels, and five slides. There are also a pair of bucket swings for babies and four standard swings.
There is also a skate park and the park ranger warned us that sometimes kids race through the playground area on skateboards and bikes to access the skate park area, even though the sign prohibits this.  The playground surface is mainly a cushy, rubber surface, but some equipment sits on mulch.  Water fountains, benches, and bathrooms are in the main play area.  Parking is plentiful. There are plenty of trees throughout, although we visited on a cloudy, fall day so I’m not sure how sheltered it would be during the summer.  Two ship structures, one for toddlers and one for elementary age children have periscopes and places to crawl underneath, and wide tunnel slides.
Down a few flight of steps and then onto a paved walkway is a small playground with four each of bucket and standard swings.  There is a nice, natural rock climbing structure, a limestone dolphin to climb on, a dolphin rocker, and play unit with three slides.  This playground is entirely mulch, has fountains, and a picnic area with grills.  The nicest part of this play area is it overlooks a man-made lake.
We didn’t want to climb uphill to the top where a third, small playground rests, but I definitely saw swings.  All the children were having fun on the main level playground which is the biggest and most fun.
The Scene
With over 690 acres, Cosca Regional Park is a wonderful place to bring the family.  I can’t believe I had not been here sooner, but am already planning our next trip.  Watch a game at their impressive sports complex, play a game of volleyball, rent a paddleboat, hike the trails, have a picnic, enjoy the playground, camp, or see the animals at the nature center.
