Deanwood Park
The Equipment
Despite the inability to easily access the playground, I squeezed through a side gate to bring you the full scoop on the playground features. The equipment appears new along with the cushy surface. The swing set contains two each of baby and regular swings. There are several pieces of equipment great for strengthening muscles including balance boards, four side-by-side seated balance jumpers and several types of climbing bars of varying difficulty. One structure has a balance jumper, slide and spin racer activity. Another structure has talking tubes and two slides. There are stepping stumps that resemble giant plastic screws and floating steps that are also shaped like screws.
The Scene
Deanwood Park includes a playground, recreation center and library. There are basketball courts, a soccer field and a Capital bike share station. It’s across the street from the Deanwood metro station. The only parking is for handicap permit holders. Street parking can be limited if a game is taking place.
Call in advance to make sure the playground is accessible. During our weekend afternoon visit, a large crowd was present for a soccer game. Many kids were on the playground, yet all the gates to it were locked. Children, mine included, squeezed through a side gate to use the equipment.
