Fort Barnard Park

The Equipment
With lots of color and an assortment of surfaces, newly renovated Fort Barnard Park features two playground areas for younger and older children. The younger side features two bucket swings and smaller-scale play equipment with a slide. Other options include ride-on and spinning elements. The area for grade-school children features a cool fort theme, with numerous climbing pieces and a tall twisty slide. A multi-rider swing is a favorite. Also a favorite: a combination merry-go-round/climbing structure, which looks like a giant Christmas tree that gently spins!
The Scene
This partially-fenced, five-acre park lies directly across the street from the dog park of the same name. In addition to the partially-shaded playground, there are two basketball courts, a diamond field, and a paved path. Benches are numerous, and the picnic pavilion, featuring multicolored mosaic columns, offers two rectangle tables. Free on-street parking is very limited; in fact, on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., parking is not permitted along the stretch of road closest to the playground.
