Fort Stevens Park
The Equipment
With the exception of the swing set, the playground is fenced and sits on a rubber surface. The tot area includes a double and regular slide, suspension bridge and telescopes. Instead of steps, you can choose from a wooden log climber or a pyramid of cannon balls. The focal point of the playground for bigger kids is the five level cargo net climber. I saw some pretty brave children maneuver their way through disheveled logs, rope ladders, stepping stumps and tree trunks just to be able to reach the long slides. There are also spinning seats, two regular, one baby and one special needs swing here.
The Scene
If you ever wanted to feel like you were in a fort, look no further than Fort Stevens Park. “Awesome” is what my eight year old said when we parked on the street. The park includes a community center, playground, splash pad, basketball and tennis courts, soccer field, fitness station, picnic tables, benches and water fountain.
