Glencarlyn Park
The Equipment
The newly renovated Glencarlyn Park playground features two distinct areas side-by-side, one that previously existed and one that is brand new. The older side features a traditional structure with climbing options and two slides, as well as an airplane for dramatic play. The new side offers two swings, a spinner, a 4-seat seesaw, a sand area, large flat rocks, and a “treehouse” structure, which also provides two slides, multiple climbing opportunities, and, from the bottom to the top, many options for imaginative play.
The Scene
Note that there are two winding entrances into the park by car, and there are multiple parking areas, so parking is plentiful, though the lot closest to the playground has only a handful of spots. The playground, which is not fenced, is also accessible by nature trail and the W&OD trail. Situated adjacent to Long Branch Nature Center, the nearly 100-acre Park also offers two picnic shelters, as well as stand-alone picnic tables, an amphitheater, nature trails, paved paths, a dog park and a stream with several bridges to cross. The playground provides benches and a single picnic table. Though the park is in many areas heavily shaded, there is limited shade at the playground itself.
