Hadley’s Playground

The Equipment
Three main play areas make up the design of Hadley’s Playground. A pirate ship, castle and Lincoln Log type fort encourage kids to play both imaginatively and actively. These structures are huge and incorporate many climbing and sliding areas as well as places meant for pretend play. You can storm the castle, captain a pirate ship and hide away in your own fort, all in Potomac! There is also a “challenge” area with three sets of monkey bars, rings and a climbing wall. Four swings round out the play equipment. Due to the surface of the playground, bikes and push toys are popular here but are not allowed up on the equipment.
The Scene
The park was designed so that all play surfaces and structures can be accessed by strollers and wheelchairs. The play areas are set upon soft surface flooring that allows easy rolling up to and around the equipment. Wide ramps are used in place of steps to lead children onto the playground structures. While these accommodations make the playground accessible to children with disabilities, the size and scope of fun available will “wow” all kids.  The day we visited was a cloudy day but some other parents at the park mentioned that the playground gets very hot in the summertime due to the lack of shade. Several other benches and picnic tables that are not shaded are scattered around the play areas. The playground is surrounded by playing fields on three sides, allowing plenty of space to run and minimizing car traffic around the park. There is ample free parking on site in the lot located off of Falls Road.
