Adventure Playground

The Equipment
This new outdoor play space has climbing nets, gymnastics equipment, giant slides and a large bay of “big kid” swings.  The first thing that my kids headed for once we left the parking lot was the giant blue and green “hill” constructed out of rubber surface material. Lots of kids were enjoying running laps around the surface and there were many kids racing up and down. Next up came our disappointment for the day. There are three slides in total – large, medium and small. On the upper level of the playground are 3 separate climbing structures geared towards older kids and a piece of equipment with two huge spider webs with a suspension bridge connecting them. This was a huge hit!
Though the Adventure Playground is geared towards kids aged 5 to 12 there is some fun to be had for younger kids. On the back side of the play area there is a large sand pit with two sand tables and a construction crane in the middle. There are also 6 different ride-on toys like a dinosaur and Clifford as well as 4 swings for babies and toddlers. All in all though the equipment is definitely geared towards kids kindergarten age and older. Kids 3 and younger will definitely need assistance on the climbing structures and parents will need to be vigilant around the gaps in the fencing near the giant slides.
The Scene
Parking at the new Adventure Playground is free and plentiful. Head to your left once you reach the circle when entering Wheaton Park off of Shorefield Road. Between the parking lot and the play equipment is a bathhouse with men’s and women’s restrooms. These were open on the day of our visit but no signage was present to let us know if these are open daily or operate only seasonally. There is also a walking/bike path and several picnic tables and pavilions located close to the playground.  Visit the carousel and train while here.
