Benning Park
The Equipment
The park has so much to offer that it’s a little overwhelming at first. The eye catching attraction is the giant castle feted with a drawbridge, suspension bridge, two block climbers, stepping stumps and three slides. Surrounded by the castle are two spinning seats, a four seated, high back teeter totter and a seated merry-go-round. There are colorful mushrooms to climb on along with a baby, special needs and two standard swings.
A fire breathing dragon is on display with a series of cargo nets, hoops to crawl through, rock formations, stepping stumps and several climbing apparatus. Nearby is a green spiral slide which is nice, but doesn’t quite fit the dragon theme.
A duo of photo cut-out knights stand guard as they defend a slide, two spinning bars, a tree spinner and giant spider web nets. An additional set of swings are here. There are three regular swings and a special needs swing.
The Scene
Benning Community Center and park offers a gym, auditorium, multipurpose room, outdoor pool, playground, fitness station, lighted basketball and tennis courts, lighted soccer field, community garden, picnic shelter and water fountain. There is no parking lot to this large park, but you can find a few spaces on Hanna Place, which is the back entrance to the park. The playground has minimal shade and is equipped with a rubber surface while the walkways are asphalt.
