The Washington Ballet
For those who have a future of becoming a professional dancer, try this out.Celebrating its 72nd year as an organization, The Washington Ballet grew out of the success of The Washington School of Ballet, founded and directed for years by legendary dance pioneer Mary Day. The School opened in 1944 and the Company was established in 1976 with Ms. Day’s singular vision clearly illuminated: to create a stellar institution of teaching, creating and enlightenment through dance.
The Washington School of Ballet is recognized nationally and internationally for its classical training and dedication to excellence in dance and dance education. The school trains over 500 local, national and international students each year, with a curriculum ranging from Pre-Ballet for five-year-olds to pre-professional programs for students 13 to 20 years old, many of whom wish to pursue dance as a career. The school also offers classes for adults from beginning to advanced levels.
